Good news, bad news for NASCAR -teams in front of the Texas Cup Weekend


The Nascar Cup series visits the only visit to Texas Motor Speedway this weekend.

The next three points races are at 1.5 mile tracks Texas, Kansas and the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte.

Here’s a look at the good news and bad news for Cup teams heading to Texas.

Joey Logano told SiriusXM Nascar Radio that he and Austin Cindric talked about what happened at the end of the stage two on Talladega.

23xi Racing – Good news: Bubba Wallace is second in the series in stage points with 94 this season. … Wallace’s pit staff got a net 37 places on four tire stops this season, especially teams. … Tyler Reddick’s average finish in the cup at Texas is 9.3. … Reddick scored at least one stage point in each race this season. Bad news: Riley Herbst has five finishes of 28th or worse in the last seven races.

Pre -drive Motorport – Good News: Noah Gragson finishes a season-best fourth on Talladega. … Zane Smith won the pole at Talladega this weekend, his first Career Cup. … Todd Gilliland finished 16th or better in three of the last four races. Bad news: Gilliland did not finish better than 28th in three cups in Texas.

Haas Factory Team – Good News: Cole Custer finished in Talladega last weekend. Bad news: Custer’s average finish this season is 26.3.

Hendrick Motorsports – Good News: Kyle Larson scored a series of 100 points in the last two races at 1.5 mile cuts. He won on Homestead and finished ninth in Las Vegas and won a stage there. … Larson’s top five finishes and seven top 10s are most in his career through ten races. … Alex Bowman has seven consecutive top-10 finishes at 1.5 mile tracks, the longest active line in the series. … Chase Elliott is the only driver finishing in the top 20 in each of the first ten races of the season. … William Byron has a best average finish of 8.5 this year, the best average by a Hendrick driver, as Jimmie Johnson had an average finish of 7.0 in the first 10 races of 2013 … Byron finished third or better in three of the last four Texas races. … The organization won three of the last four Texas point races with three different drivers: Elliott in April 2024, Byron in September 2023 and Larson in October 2021 … Hendrick is the only team to have at least one car in the top five in all ten races. Bad news: Elliott is winless in his last 37 starting in point races (he won the collision in early February).

Hyak Motorsports – Good News: Ricky Stenhouse jr. Has six top 20 finals this season. Bad news: Stenhouse started only two top 10s in its last 20 on a 1.5 mile track. … Stenhouse is 18th in the playoffs, although he is 32nd in passing, 31st in speed and 35th in the pit staff, according to Racing Insights.

Joe Gibbs Racing – Good News: Denny Hamlin finished in the top two in three of the last four races. … Hamlin finished in 21 consecutive breeds, the longest active stripe, on the front round. … Chase Briscoe’s average finish of 9.0 in Texas is best by any driver all times. … Briscoe has three top -10s in the last five races. … Christopher Bell finished in the top three in half the ten races this season, including three wins. … Ty Gibbs has four consecutive top 20 finishes after placing in the top 20 only once in the first six races of the season. Bad news: Briscoe scored in the stage points in only three of 10 races this year.

Kaulig Racing – Good News: AJ All-Concerning has the top 10s in the last four races at 1.5 mile tracks. Bad news: Ty Dillon has had fuel problems in each of the past two races. He was forced to hit Bristol for fuel with less than 10 laps and caught fire at Talladega this weekend, while he was in the position to achieve his first top -10 of the season.

Legacy Motor Club – Good News: Erik Jones makes his 300th career cup this weekend. Bad news: John Hunter Nemechek finished 30th in two of the last three races.

Richard Childress Racing – Good News: Austin Dillon finished 10th in 10th, his only two top 10s of the season. … Kyle Busch started six top -10s in his last eight on Texas. Bad news: Busch has not finished at 1.5 mile tracks in the top 10 in the last six races. … Busch had a quick penalty in each of the last two races. … This is the second year in a row that RCR only ended one top five in the first ten races of the season.

Rick True Racing – Good News: Cody real scored his first stage points of the season on Talladega this weekend. Bad news: True’s best endpoint in Texas was 33rd in 2022, his most recent cup starts on the track.

RFK Racing – Good News: Brad Keselowski has six consecutive top -10s in Texas. … Ryan Preece ended in the top 10 this season in both races at 1.5 mile tracks. He placed ninth on Homestead and third in Las Vegas. Bad news: Preece’s second place in Talladega was taken away when his car was disqualified for the failure of inspection after the race (had three Shims instead of two with Spoiler). He lost 39 points, which dropped him from the 12th to 18th. … Chris Buescher finishes 34th in Talladega after being in an accident with Christopher Bell on a restart while they were in front of the field. … Keselowski finishes 36th at Talladega due to an accident, while cars have delayed to get to Pit Road in the opening phase.

Nascar discovers problems with both cars in inspection after Sunday’s race.

Spire Motorsports – Good News: Carson Hcevar’s 40 -phase points this season are more than five drivers who are on a play -off match after ten races. … Michael McDowell scored the bonus point for the fastest round in the race at Talladega. This is the third time he has done it this season. Bad news: Justin Haley started one top 10 final in his last 15 at 1.5 miles. … HCEVAR has four finishes of the 30th or worse in the last seven races.

Team Penske – Good News: Austin Cindric comes in Texas in his Talladega victory. Bad news: Ryan Blaney has failed to finish four of the last seven races this season, including last weekend’s race at Talladega. The four DNFs are the most in the series this year. … Joey Logano lost 40 points with his car disqualified from Talladega for the failure of inspection to the race (a spoiler bolt miss). He finished fifth to the last place in the 39 car field. He fell from eight to 11th in points.

Trackhouse Racing – Good News: Ross Chastain won 21 positions on 1.5 mile cuts this season, most in the series. … Chastain finished in the top -10 in four of the last six races. … Daniel Suarez has three top 10 finishes in the last four races in Texas. Bad news: Shane van Gisbergen has five fines in the last three races.

Wood Brothers Racing – Good News: Earlier this season, Josh Berry won on Las Vegas, a 1.5 -mile track. … Berry started in the top -10 in five of the last nine races. Bad news: Berry finished 36th in April in his only cup starts in Texas after an accident eliminated him.
