The Nascar Cup series starts the second half of the usual season with Sunday’s trip to Nashville Superspeedway.
Ross Chastain’s Coca-Cola 600 victory this past weekend made him the fourth different winner in the last four points races. Kyle Larson won in that piece in Kansas, Joey Logano in Texas and Austin Cindric in Talladega.
Here is a look at the good news and bad news for Cup teams that are on the way at Nashville Superspeedway on Sunday’s race.
23xi Racing – Good news: Tyler Reddick was third in last year’s Nashville race. … Corey Heim drives the no. 67 -Car in a fourth entry for the organization this weekend at Nashville. Bad news: Bubba Wallace finished or finished 33rd in the last three points races, and dropped him from the seventh to 12th place in the standings. … Reddick has one top 10 in his last seven cup points -racing. … Riley Herbst finished or finished in seven of the last 10 points races 27th. … Herbst has six fines for the velocity of the Pit Road, with Shane van Gisbergen for most in the series. … The team has one top 10 final in the last five races.
Pre -drive Motorport – Good News: Noah Gragson finished in three of the last four races in the top -15. … Gragson’s five phase points in the Coca-Cola 600 were more than he scored in the previous 12 races. … Todd Gilliland finished 18th or better in six of the last seven races. … Zane Smith finished the best second in Nashville last year. Bad news: Smith comes to Nashville to a 39th place in the Coca-Cola 600.
Haas Factory Team – Good News: Cole Custer scored an average of 17.5 points per race in the last four races after being an average of 9.4 points per race in the first nine races of the season. Bad news: Custer is one of the four full-time drivers without a top 10 final this season, and he joined Ty Dillon, Riley Herbst and Cody Ware in that category.
Hendrick Motorsports – Good News: Kyle Larson has an average finish of 4.5 at Nashville, its best on all tracks. … Larson is the only driver to finish in the top -10 in all four races in Nashville. … Larson won six of the last 11 phases. … Hendrick drivers have led 72% of the rounds in the last six races. … The organization had at least one manager in the top five in all 13 races this season. … William Byron’s average start this season is 8.8, the best of all drivers, and its average finish of 9.5 is the best of all drivers. … Byron finished in the top three in five of 13 races this season. … Chase Elliott is the only driver to finish in the top -20 this season. … Alex Bowman will start his 268th Career Cup for Hendrick Motorsports, and Ken Schrader for sixth place on the team’s list of all time. Bad news: Bowman finished 27th or worse in five of the last seven races.
Hyak Motorsports – Good News: Ricky Stenhouse jr. Let his 450th cup start this weekend. … Stenhouse is halfway through the usual season in a play -off game. … Stenhouse has four consecutive top 20 finishes. Bad news: Stenhouse started only twice in the first 13 races of the season in the Top 20. … Stenhouse has not yet led a shot this year.
Joe Gibbs Racing – Good News: Denny Hamlin will start his 700th career cup this weekend. … Chase Briscoe finishes a season-best third in last weekend’s Coca-Cola 600. … Christopher Bell has six top 10s in the last eight races. … Bell started three top -10s in four at Nashville. Bad news: Hamlin finished 16th or worse in the last four races. … Briscoe has not started better than the 21st in four Nashville yet. … Ty Gibbs placed the 17th or worse in each of the last four races. … Bell led eight of the 1,923 rounds in the last six races.
Kaulig Racing – Good News: AJ All Control is working on a season-best fourth place in the Coca-Cola 600. … Allmender won a race in the XFinity series in 2023 in Nashville. … Ty Dillon finished in the top -20 in six of 13 races this season. Bad news: Allmender is 13 points from the last play -off match on the halfway point in the usual season.
Legacy Motor Club – Good News: Erik Jones has placed in the top -15 in two of the last three races. … John Hunter Nemechek won the XFinity race in Nashville last year. Bad news: Nemechek finished 31st last year in Nashville in his only cup of start there.
Richard Childress Racing – Good News: All three Austin Dillon’s top 10 finals this season have come in the last five races. … Dillon has three top 15 finishes in four cups at Nashville. … Kyle Busch has two Xfinity and two trucks on Nashville. Bad news: Busch has one top 10 final in the last nine races.
Rick True Racing – Good News: Cody Ware’s 25th place in the Coca-Cola 600 is his best result since he was 24th in Phoenix in March. Bad news: Ware started 33rd or worse in 11 consecutive race.
RFK Racing – Good News: Ryan Preece has five top 10 finishes this season, which is tied to most he had in a cup season. … Preece achieved a back-to-back-to-10 results … Brad Keselowski finished a season-best fifth in the Coca-Cola 600. … Chris Buescher’s crew head, Scott Graves, returns after sitting over the past two races (Coke 600 and All-Star Race) for an offense after the Kansas race. Bad news: Justin Haley finishes 30th or worse in each of the past two breeds. … Hocevar had two blowing engines this season.
Team Penske – Good News: Joey Logano is the defensive winner at Nashville and takes the checkered flag to five overseas. … Logano started three top -10s in four Nashville. Bad news: Austin Cindric has one top 10 final in the last eight races. … Ryan Blaney failed to complete five races, with Bubba Wallace and Brad Keselowski for most in the series.
Trackhouse Racing – Good News: Coca-Cola 600 winner Ross Chastain ends 20.7 positions better than he has started over the past seven races. … Chastain has six top -10s in the last nine races. … Chastain has three top five finishes in four Nashville, including a 2023 victory … Shane van Gisbergen’s 14th place in last weekend’s Coca-Cola 600 is his best endpoint at an oval since last October in Martinsville.
