Good news, bad news before Michigan Weekend for Nascar Cup teams


The Nascar Cup series is the weekend after one of its fastest tracks with a trip to Michigan International Speedway.

The qualification was canceled on the 2-Mile track last year, but the pole speed of 193,382 km / h in 2023 was the fastest pole speed of the season. It is not uncommon to see the speeds of or more than 200 km / h in the corners.

Here’s a look at the good news and bad news for Cup teams that are on the way on Sunday’s race on Michigan International Speedway.

Bad news: Alex Bowman finished or finished 27th in six of the last eight races and dropped him from third place in the points to 12th place. … Larson failed to score any points in the last five phases after winning six of the previous eight phases. … While Chase Elliott 10’s top -10s in 14 cup in Michigan, he didn’t start top -10s in his last try.

Hyak Motorsports – Good News: Ricky Stenhouse jr. Is 18th in the points after 14 races; Last year he was 27th in points after 14 races. Joe Gibbs Racing – Good News: Denny Hamlin has seven consecutive top 10 finishes in Michigan, the longest active line among all drivers. … Chase Briscoe has won the pole for the past two races. … Briscoe has three poles this season, most in the series. … Christopher Bell has seven top -10s in the last nine races, including four in a row. … Ty Gibbs has two top 10 finishes in three cups in Michigan, including a third-place result. … Gibbs is the first time in the best average finish at Michigan for those with three or more start there. Gibbs started an average finish of 8.0 in three career there. Bad news: The organization last won in August 2015 with Matt Kenseth in Michigan. … Bell’s best endpoint in the six Michigan Cup starts 13th, making it the only active oval he didn’t achieve a top -10 … Ty Gibbs finished or ended in each of the last five races. … While Hamlin is a two -time winner in Michigan, his last win came there in June 2011.

Bad news: John Hunter Nemechek’s average finish on Michigan is 29.3, his worst under active oval tracks.

Richard Childress Racing – Good News: Kyle Busch moved to the final Cup play -off match after last weekend’s race in Nashville. … Busch has 10 Top -10’s in the last 12 Michigan Cup races. Bad news: Austin Dillon finished 20th or worse in each of the last three races. … Busch has one top 10 final in the last 10 races.

Rick True Racing – Good News: Cody Ware’s 21st place last year in Michigan is his best result in four cups. Bad news: True was one of the four full -time managers who did not qualify for the tournament of the season, which will start later this month.

RFK Racing – Good News: Brad Keselowski’s nine top five finishes and 15 top 10s on Michigan are most on any cup track where he wins. … Chris Buescher finished sixth or better in each of the last two Michigan races, including a win. … This organization has won 14 times in Michigan, most among any teams. Bad news: Ryan Preece finished 20th or worse in five of the last seven races.

Brad Keselowski says about recent fines: “Finally the burden falls on us and we had those conversations internally. I think everyone knows what is expected of them, going forward.”

Spire Motorsports – Good News: Carson Hcevar bound second place in Nashville this past weekend. … Hocevar scored points in eight of the last 13 phases. … Hocevar started in his only cup last year in Michigan. Bad news: Justin Haley finished 30th or worse in each of the last three races. … Michael McDowell placed the 21st or worse in five of the last seven races.

Carson Hcevar bound his best finish to the career by placing second on Nashville.

Team Penske – Good News: Ryan Blaney comes to his win on Nashville Superspeedway this weekend. … all three Penske drivers won a race this season. … Team Penke won three of the last five points races. … Blaney started three top -10s, including a win, in his last four Michigan. … Joey Logano posted on Nashville this past weekend last weekend. … Logano’s three wins in Michigan bind him with Kyle Larson for most there among active drivers. Bad news: Austin Cindric’s Talladega victory is his only top -10 in the last nine races.

Ryan Blaney’s victory makes Team Penske the first organization to win all his cup managers this year.

Trackhouse Racing – Good News: Ross Chastain has five finishes of seventh or better in the last eight races, including his Coca-Cola 600 victory. … Daniel Suarez started the top 10 finishes in each of his last two Michigan. Bad news: Shane van Gisbergen was one of the four full -time managers who did not qualify for the tournament this season, which will start later this month. … Chastain started six finishes of the 24th or worse in seven Michigan.

Wood Brothers Racing – Good News: Josh Berry started in the top -20 in five of the last six races. Bad news: Berry did not finish better than 22nd in three Michigan Cup.
