Gilas Pilipinas in 2025 FIBA Asia Cup

Gilas Pilipinas heads into the FIBA Asia Cup with hopes of winning the championship, a feat the country has not accomplished in four decades

MANILA, Philippines – Gilas Pilipinas once again goes on a quest for glory as it tangles with the best the continent has to offer in the FIBA Asia Cup hosted in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from August 5 to 17.

As per head coach Tim Cone, the Philippines — which is bunched with Chinese Taipei, New Zealand, and Iraq in Group D — is out to win gold, a feat the country has not accomplished in four decades.

To reach the knockout rounds, the Filipinos need at least a top-three finish, with the No. 1 team in the group advancing directly to the quarterfinals and the No. 2 and 3 squads vying for top-eight spots in the crossover playoffs.

Australia shoots for a third straight Asia Cup crown, with China, New Zealand, Japan, Korea, Lebanon, and Iran among the other contenders.
