Gazans and Israelis react to the ceasefire and hostage release deal

Israel and Hamas have reached an agreement for a ceasefire and the release of hostages, starting on January 19.

The long-awaited agreement aims to end the 15-month war.

Hamas attacked southern Israel on October 7, 2023, killing around 1,200 people and kidnapping 251, returning them to Gaza as hostages.

The attack triggered a major Israeli offensive in Gaza, killing more than 46,000 Palestinians, according to the Hamas-run Health Ministry.
