Filipinos welcome Year of the Wood Snake in Binondo, Manila

Thousands flock to Ongpin Street to shop, dine, and celebrate

MANILA, Philippines – Filipinos flocked to the world’s oldest Chinatown — Binondo in Manila — to ring in the lunar new year on Tuesday, January 28. As they welcomed the Year of the Wood Snake, thousands streamed into Ongpin Street in Manila to shop, dine, and celebrate.

Once the clock struck 12, the crowd at Jones Bridge were treated to a 20-minute fireworks display and drone show — a level-up from last year’s fireworks display. The drone show put a spotlight on Filipino-Chinese friendship. Fireworks are also believed to chase away bad spirits.
