“It is highly recommended that they have their swallowing evaluated,” Domalog said. “If there is a swallowing problem, it’s good to know. If this is the beginning of a swallowing problem, it’s important to treat it early. Early intervention is the best way forward, not waiting.”
“The best place to start is with your doctor, because you’ll need a doctor’s order to get your insurance to cover your evaluation with a speech-language pathologist,” Ross said.
Speech pathologists are health providers who perform in-depth swallowing evaluations to evaluate your muscles and nerves. Based on their assessment, they will suggest a treatment plan for you.
