A fire has broken out at a power plant in California, one of the world’s largest battery energy storage facilities.
The fire started in a building that housed lithium-ion batteries Thursday afternoon, an official with the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office said.
The Moss Landing power plant, run by Vistra Corp, was evacuated, as were the people nearby. There were no injuries.
Officials are not actively fighting the fire, a Monterey Sheriff’s spokesman said, and are instead allowing the building and batteries to burn on the advice of fire experts.
