Denny Hamlin took the lead with three rounds left to get a fight on the Michigan International Speedway.
On lap 197 of 200, Hamlin moved in to the first past William Byron, who went to his no. 24 Chevrolet two rounds later had to be set out.
“Obviously (Byron) has done a good job to defend,” Hamlin told Prima reporter Kim Coon as he addressed the Frontretch-Rallke at the 2-Mile Oval. “But Daddy, I’m sorry, but I beat your favorite manager, people. All of them. ‘
Hamlin’s fiancé Jordan Fish expects the couple’s third child (a boy) this week, coming on the heels of his 23xi racing team Losing a motion in his lawsuit with Nascar.
Chris Buescher finishes second, followed by Ty Gibbs, Bubba Wallace and Kyle Larson.
Ross Chastain, Zane Smith, Kyle Busch, Ryan Preece and Brad Keselowski rounded off the top -10.
Byron finishes 28th, despite leding four times for a 98 rounds.
“It just tried to drive both: try to keep the lead and save fuel in the straight and on exits,” Byron told Coon. “The one you can’t do much about. It sucks. It really stabs, but we had a very good car. I thought we were going well at the last stop. We just burned more (fuel) and couldn’t do much about it. That’s what it is. ‘
Hamlin scored his third win of the season and the 57th of his career. For his third win in Brooklyn, Michigan, and only since 2011, Hamlin had to cut a lot of traffic after starting 11th place again, with 47 laps left. The race remained green for the rest of the way.
“It’s fantastic,” Hamlin said. “Chris Gayle, this whole team has just done a good job. We have been so fast all year, and have not completed it for some reason. It feels good to get here in Michigan where we have been so close over the years. It is such a pleasing day to start again 11d Or something like that and drive through the field. I knew I would have to go 100 percent to get around everyone. They only worked one by one. “
For the third consecutive race, Carson Hcevar had a good chance of breaking through for his first cup series, but the Spire Motorsports driver suffered a cut tires with the left behind while left with 19 laps. Portage native Michigan was forced to hit under green and fell in 30th place after leading 22 rounds.
Hocevar bound a best finish at Nashville Superspeedway last week and was in the fight with the Coca-Cola 600 ahead of an engine error in his no. 77 Chevrolet.
The race was stopped with a red flag for more than 11 minutes for clearing up an accident of five cars in turn 2 on round 67. Alex Bowman took the worst of it and converted into a head-to-collision with the outside wall by contacting Cole Custer (which was hit by Austin Cindric).
Bowman walked away from his mutilated no. 48 Chevrolet, but his free fall in the standings continued with his seventh finish of 27th or worse in the past nine races.
“It hurt a lot,” Bowman told Coon. “It was probably the top of the board on hits I took, and unfortunately I had a lot of hits. So I hate it for the 48 team. Can’t really do anything except to think of ‘O (exploding), it’s about to injure really badly. ‘
“Hate it for our team. It was a rough two months. I mean, honesty, we were pretty decent (in practice), I was pretty optimistic to start today. We got super loose and just tried a long pit stop to make an adjustment to make it better. And never really got a chance to run afterwards. I am confident that my guys could get the car, and we got a good way there, but unfortunately, but you would get into the setback, but to use it, but had a breakdown) crazy, and things happened. “
