Lebanon, Tenn. – Denny Hamlin says he will skip the cup race at Nashville Superspeedway if fiancé Jordan Fish goes in labor on Sunday.
Fish will deliver the couple’s third child on Sunday.
“I can’t miss it,” Hamlin said on Saturday. “I definitely had to be there for her and of course that is the biggest priority. I just wish she would hang a little longer. ‘
Sunday was started on Hamlin’s 700th Career Cup. He would only be the 22nd manager in the series of history to reach that mark.
Joe Gibbs Racing Reserve driver Ryan Truex is in Nashville and will drive to Hamlin if necessary. Nascar is expected to give Hamlin a play -off match if he misses the race for the birth of his child.
Hamlin was going to take a band test on Tuesday and Wednesday on Iowa Speedway. He will skip it. The teammate Chase Briscoe will be the no. 11 -Car during the test drive.
Hamlin has two wins this season and is sixth in the standings in Sunday’s race.
