Now that D.C. has controlled the RFK Stadium campus for 99 years, it’s time to demolish the building that has been there for 64 years.

Few tears of sadness will be shed by the captain’s fans. If anything, it’s the next tangible step in the franchise’s comeback. With the old RFK Stadium gone, a new stadium could take its place.
It’s all about whether DC can close a deal with the team. There will be competition from Maryland, and possibly Virginia. Since leaders are unlikely to pay for construction themselves, it will come down to the best deal they can negotiate, fueled by the strength of local competition.
Leaders have described 2030 as “Reasonable goal“To open a new stadium. But that’s only five years away. Which means the deal has to be done, sooner rather than later.
