Daytona 500 Primer: What to know about 2025 NASCAR CUP season opener


It will not take long for cars to be at the time at Daytona International Speedway and the Daytona 500 takes the green flag.

Here are important details for the season opener.

Time and date

The Daytona 500 is scheduled to take place on Fox on Sunday, February 16 at 2:30 pm.

The race is 200 rounds around the 2.5 -mile highway.

This is the 68th run of the race at Daytona International Speedway. William Byron won last year’s race.

Non-Cartered Enteries

There are nine cars without charges that have announced plans to enter the event. Four will make the field.

Helio Castroneseves is guaranteed that a Daytona 500 starting point through a new rule. NASCAR allows one for the time being per race for world -class drivers that a team requests it at least 90 days before the event. If CastroneVes at the velocity qualify or earn a place through its qualifying race, the provisional will not be available to any other competitor.

Set the field

There are several layers to set the Daytona 500 field.

The qualification of a single car will take place on February 12. The fastest two cars include the starting places on the front row.

The two fastest cars without a charter will also ensure a starting place.

The field was divided into two 60 cloth qualifying races on February 13. The rest of the field will be set after those races.

One non-carational car from each qualifying race will make the field.

Joey Logano won the pole for last year’s race and Michael McDowell was second. Last year was only the second time in ten years that Hendrick Motorsports did not win the Daytona 500 pole.

The past Daytona 500 winners

Denny Hamlin is a three -time winner and wins in 2016, ’19 and ’20. Jimmie Johnson won the race in 2006 and ’13.

The current cup managers with the one -time win of Daytona 500 are: William Byron (2024), Ricky Stenhouse jr. (2023), Austin Cindric (2022), Michael McDowell (2021), Austin Dillon (2018) and Joey Logano (2015).
