Corey Heim spoke in a quiet way, but his message to Layne Riggs was clear after Saturday’s Nascar Craftsman Truck Series race at North Wilkesboro Speedway.
“You chase like an (exploding) idiot,” Heim told Riggs on Pit Road. “Calm down or else someone is going to take care of you.”
Heim then walked away before Riggs could offer a rebuttal.
Heim, a 23xi reserve manager who started his first cup of the season in Kansas last week, was frustrated after seeing another truck victory away this season.
Heim led at the last round of overtime when Riggs dived low in turn 1 and came on the track next to Heim in turn 2. Heim spun. Riggs and Chandler Smith went by. Smith passed Riggs in his turn 3 to win the race. Riggs finish second. Heim, who led a 162 rounds, finished 17th.
“Just on his side,” Heim told Motor Racing Network about Riggs. “Did it do it to me earlier in the race and not learn his lesson. I chased him so clean through my years. I am just constantly used by him. ‘
Heim later told FS1: “I really got loose (turn) 3 (on the previous round). We struggled to be loose on the short runs and he had the opportunity to ruin me.”
Riggs told MRN: “We are green-white controlled races in North Wildeboro at the end. I didn’t want to come to him at all. He won the race. Come to the white (flag), we came down to (turn) 3 and 4 and he really got free and opened the bottom. I drove under him.
“We got side by side at the front. I pulled it there at the bottom and tried to make him work. Didn’t make it happen. It is disappointing. … a lot of drama on short track races. I am looking for me and my team. I want what’s best for us. ‘
