Since generating 1,947 receiving yards in 2021, Rams receiver Cooper Kupp has not returned to 1,000 receiving yards in any season. He had just 710 receiving yards in 2024.
He last had a 100-yard game in mid-November. Over the last four, he has 82 total receiving yards — with one catch for 29 yards in each of the last two contests.
On Thursday, the reigning MVP of Super Bowl LVI was asked to explain how he handles a reduced role, given that he was previously the focal point of the offense.
“You pray a lot,” Cobb said. “You do a lot of prayer and meditation. It’s football in some ways. Statistically speaking, I’ve been through similar things before. Going back to 2019, I think I finished the last half of that season averaging less than 50 yards a game or something.” Like that.
“Statistically, there’s something wrong. I can look back at those times as if I was playing good football. In the same way, I just want to play good football. I want to watch the tape and see that I’m doing things the right way, separating my teammates, competing with them, blocking, making… With my job, that’s all I can do. Whatever they ask me to do, I think if I do things the right way long enough, things will eventually come full circle. And I continue Pray, and these things will work out.”
Cobb turns 32 in June. He’s scheduled to make $20 million in 2025, which is one reason the Rams are looking to trade him before they start digging out of the 1-4 hole to start the 2024 season.
Absent a massive restructuring, and possibly a downgrade, of his deal, Kupp could be available in a trade after the season — and would very likely be released as the Rams’ passing game makes Puka Nacua the go-to guy.
