Cooper Kupp plans to continue playing, doesn’t know if it will be with the Rams

Before the Rams revived the 2024 season, they were hoping to trade receiver Cooper Kupp. When they start digging from holes 1-4, they decide to stand.

Now that the season is over, Cupp doesn’t know if he’ll be back with the Rams.

Per Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com, Kupp said Monday that there is “no question” he will play in 2024. There is doubt as to whether the Rams intend to keep him.

Who knows what will happen?Kupp said. “It’s out of my control. And we’ll see what happens. . . . I don’t have any clarity on what it’s going to look like or anything like that. So yeah, obviously I’d love to be in LA, but I don’t know what that’s going to look like.”

Kupp went from the centerpiece of the passing game (and Super Bowl MVP) to second fiddle to Puka Nacua in three years. With $20 million owed in 2025 (of which $5 million is fully guaranteed), that’s more than his current production guarantees.

The first decision comes at the beginning of the championship year, when the bonus of 7.5 million dollars is due. (A $5 million guarantee is included in that payout.) He also has a $12.5 million base salary for 2025.

If the 31-year-old Kup stays, he will likely have to take less than he is owed. If leaves, chances are a haircut will be fine too.

There will be moving parts. What will the Rams offer? What will the other team pay? It seems like something that will be addressed in Tampering Central as well as the Scout Combine.

The options are simple. Kupp remains under his current contract, he is reworked, traded or released.

The Rams can also allow a roster bonus to be paid and wait. With just $12.5 million owed after that, they could trade him later in the offseason — possibly after the draft.
