Carl Tamayo and the Changwon LG Sakers take a commanding 3-0 lead over Juan Gomez de Liaño and the Seoul SK Knights in their best-of-seven Korean Basketball League finals following a 17-point Game 3 blowout

MANILA, Philippines – Carl Tamayo and the Changwon LG Sakers are one win away from claiming the Korean Basketball League (KBL) crown.

Playing in front of their home fans at the Changwon Gymnasium, the LG Sakers took care of business and dominated Juan Gomez de Liaño and the Seoul SK Knights, 80-63, for a commanding 3-0 lead in their best-of-seven finals on Friday, May 9.

After relying heavily on Tamayo in the first two games of the series, Changwon got a huge lift from Assem Marei this time as the Egyptian import produced a monster line of 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting, 16 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 blocks.

Tamayo, for his part, racked up 18 points, 6 rebounds, and 1 steal after going off for 28 points in the LG Sakers’ 76-71 Game 2 win and 24 markers in their 75-66 Game 1 victory.

On the other side, Gomez de Liaño failed to build on his breakout performance for the SK Knights in Game 2, where he dropped a team-high 19 points, as he was held to only 2 points on 1-of-7 shooting, 1 rebound, 1 assist, and 2 steals in 15 minutes and 37 seconds of play.

Tamayo did most of his damage in the second quarter for Changwon as he dropped 8 of his 18 points to help the LG Sakers stretch their slim 22-20 lead at the end of the first quarter to a 47-35 cushion at the break.

A quick 8-2 rally by the LG Sakers early in the third period put their lead up to 18 points, 55-37, before extending it further to its largest at 21 points, 76-55, with just three minutes remaining in the final frame, which simply proved too much for the SK Knights to conquer late.

American import Jameel Warney paced Seoul in the loss with 18 points on 8-of-15 shooting and 11 rebounds.

Tamayo and the LG Sakers will look to complete the sweep of the SK Knights in Game 4 on Sunday, May 11, at 1 pm, Manila time. – Rappler.com
