Canelo Alvarez met with Turki Al-Sheikh today and said there is a “chance” a fight between him and Terence Crawford could happen. He said he always wanted to make “the best deals.”
Turkey hopes to set up a fight between Alvarez (62-2-2, 39 KOs) and Crawford in 2025 as it is one of the biggest fights to take place in North America this year. Whether he can put up that fight remains to be seen.
Canelo wants the “best deals”.
Crawford, 37, has yet to say what he will do if he can’t fight Canelo. We know that Terence’s age and at 154 fighting smaller, stronger and bigger fighters will eventually take its toll. He made his debut against WBA junior middleweight champion Israel Madrimov on August 3 last year and lost his last fight at 154.
“There’s always an opportunity there. We’ll see, but there’s always a chance to make good deals here, and there’s always a chance,” Canelo Alvarez said. Ring magazine When asked about a potential conflict between him and Terence Crawford.
“I think it’s going to be another good fight. Both fighters are good fighters. So I think both of them have a chance to win,” Canelo said during the Feb. 22 rematch between undisputed light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev and Dmitri Bivol in Riyadh.
Former world division champion Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) is looking to challenge Canelo for the unified middleweight title this year. He thinks he has the skills to overcome his size disadvantage. Crawford thinks he has enough size and skill to beat Canelo.
The Mexican star is showing signs of slowing down in his last two fights against Edgar Berlanga and Jaime Mungia. These are fighters Canelo could beat in 2021 and before, but he’s forced to go to a 12-round decision to beat them.
