Bollywood star ‘out of danger’ after attack at his Mumbai home

Popular Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan has undergone surgery and is out of danger after being stabbed at his home, his team has announced.

The attack took place in the early hours of Thursday in an upscale suburb of Mumbai, where Khan lives with his family.

The local police told BBC Marathi that the actor was injured in an altercation between him and an unidentified man who entered his house after midnight.

The police have formed teams to investigate the matter.

“Khan has come out of surgery and is out of danger. He is currently recovering and doctors are monitoring his progress,” Khan’s team said in a statement.

Khan is married to Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor Khan and the couple has two children. The family has yet to make a public statement, but Khan’s team said they were safe.

Khan was rushed to Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital in the early hours of Thursday.

Niraj Uttamani, the hospital’s director of operations, told BBC Marathi that Khan had received six stab wounds, two of which were deep.

The exact details of the attack are still unclear. According to the police, “an unknown person” entered the actor’s house.

“Then an argument broke out between Khan and the intruder,” Mumbai Deputy Commissioner of Police Dixit Gedam told BBC Marathi.

Khan’s team said it was a case of “attempted robbery” but did not share details.

“We ask the media and fans to be patient. It’s a police matter,” they said.
