A do-or-die match at Perth Stadium; Perth Scorers won Adelaide StrikersReclaiming the fourth spot in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25 points table.
Batting first, the Adelaide batsmen posted 161 runs before being bowled out in 19.1 overs. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, Liam Scott played 67 runs off 43 balls, including four boundaries and five maximums. Matthew Short contributed 40 runs from 21 balls.
However, the rest of the batting line fell under the pressure Jason Behrendorff And Mahli Birdman demolished the batsmen’s middle and lower order. Behrendorff claimed three wickets for 21 runs, while Birdman matched the score with an impressive 3/17 from three overs. Lance Morris was expensive but managed with two crucial wickets, taking 56 runs.
Chasing a target of 162, the Perth Scorchers showed composure and depth in their batting. Contributions from Sam Fanning (29 off 20) and Aaron Hardy (28 off 17) laid the foundation for the chase. However, it was Cooper Connolly’s 39 off 21 balls, including four sixes, that turned the tide in the Scatters’ favour.
Adelaide’s bowlers struggled to hold the score, D’Arcy Short was the best performer, taking 2/37 in 3.2 overs. Brendan Doggett also claimed a wicket but did not get enough support. Perth finished the chase in 16.2 overs..
The win not only bolstered Perth’s play-off aspirations but also officially ended the hopes of the Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Renegades in the competition. The Scorchers now look forward to the clash between Melbourne Stars and Hobart Hurricanes. If the Hurricanes win, they will advance to the finals, otherwise the Scorchers will advance to the playoffs.
And just like that…
