Australian Supercars driver Jack Perkins to make Nascar XFinity debut with Joe Gibbs Racing

Jack Perkins, who competes in the Australian Supercars series, will make his Nascar XFinity debut on August 30 at Portland International Raceway with Joe Gibbs Racing, the team announced on Thursday.

“It’s a long dream come true for me, and I’m so excited about the management of the NASCAR XFinity series for the legendary Joe Gibbs,” Perkins said in a statement from the team.

‘I started thinking about the competition in Nascar when I first visited the US in 2008 to watch Marcos Ambrose at Sonoma, and a mocker for Paul Morris, who disputed an Arca West race that weekend.

“It was a long journey to come here. I got close a few times, but we couldn’t have set the ducks completely. To do it with Coach Gibbs now, and JGR proves that you should never give up. ‘

One team makes a permanent change and the other makes a temporary move.

Perkins arrived in the US earlier this week and spent time at Joe Gibbs Racing. He underwent a seat and was in the Toyota Racing Development Simulator. He will attend the Xfinity Race and the Coca-Cola 600 this weekend on Charlotte Motor Speedway.

“Jack has a leading career in the Australian Supercars series and is highly recommended by James Small, our crew head in the number 19 team in the Cup Series,” said Steve Desouza, Executive Vice President XFinity Series and Development, in a statement from the team. “We are excited that he makes his XFinity Series debut with us on the roadway in Portland.”

Cup drivers will take part in the longest race of the season on Charlotte Motor Speedway on Sunday night.

Perkins of Small said: ‘James and I grew up together and ran as children in Australia while our dads were doing their stuff, and we stayed close to friends. James will be at Darlington with the cup series this weekend that we are chasing in Portland, but he does everything he can help to prepare and secure JGR, and I have a successful experience.

Perkins has three Repco Supercars Championship Podium finishes, nine wins and 35 podiums in the Dunlop Super2, the Nascar XFinity Series equivalent.
