Austin Hill achieved RCR’s 100th XFinity victory; Tempers flare up between Sammy Smith, Taylor Gray

Martinsville, VA. – Austin Hill went from fifth to first on the last corner when the leaders ruined to win Saturday’s Nascar Xfinity series race and give Richard Childress Racing as the 100th series win.

“When I saw the checkered flag, I was in disbelief,” Hill said.

Hill also earns the $ 100,000 Dash 4 -cash bonus.

Hill would not have had the chance to achieve his 12th career XFinity victory and second of the season without the last drama between Sammy Smith and Taylor Gray.

Smith runs in the back of Gray’s car turning 3 turns gray and turns a multi-car accident. The move came after Gray Smith moved on the track and started out on the overtime re -starting.

The two drivers had to be separated from each other after the race.

“I’m not very proud of what I did,” Smith said after leaving the Infield Care Center. “He just has no respect for me and he hurled me under the red flag and swung my door. I pulled him (turn) 1 in. He still had the lead.

“I thought to myself what he would do in this situation? He would have done exactly the same thing. He swung me down. He swung me down and that there was only the line for me to finally make the decision I made.

“If I just let him go, I accept that I’m second today. I try to do my best for my team and myself to win a (Martinsville grandfather) watch. It just wasn’t good enough. ‘

Asked if something constructive was said by Gray after that, Smith said: “No. He said he wants to go to it. We can go on it if he wants to. I think at the end of the day there will probably go a lot more forward and that’s fine with me.”

Said gray after the race: ‘I feel like we had the best car all day. I can’t thank everyone with Joe Gibbs who was enough. We brought a very quick operation 300 Toyota Gr supra. Just a pity – it’s the same story I’ve lived in a row in the past two Martinsville race. It sucks, but that’s what it is. Long year. ‘
