Controversial internet influencer Andrew Tate has been released from house arrest by a Romanian court pending the outcome of a criminal investigation, his spokesman said.
Instead, he has been placed under judicial control, meaning he will be able to travel through Romania “as long as he meets the necessary legal requirements,” the spokesman added.
Tate, 38, is facing charges of trafficking minors, having sex with a minor and money laundering, along with his brother Tristan. Both have strongly denied the charges.
The spokesman added: “Andrew Tate and his team continue to cooperate fully and seek justice.”
Tate was arrested at home in August, when prosecutors opened a second criminal investigation against him and Tristan Tate, along with four other suspects, on charges of trafficking minors, having sex with a minor and money laundering. All deny wrongdoing.
It was a first case against the brothers The Court of Appeal in Bucharest sent it to the prosecutors in December, for the second time, saying that he could not continue in the current way.
In this case, Andrew and Tristan Tate were charged with human trafficking and forming an organized group for the sexual exploitation of women.
They also deny these accusations, as well as those of rape and human trafficking in the United Kingdom, where the police want to extradite the dual nationals of the United Kingdom and the United States.
A judge in Bucharest has previously said that the extradition request will be dealt with after the case in Romania is over.
The brothers have also been accused of tax evasion in the UK. Last month, a British court ruled that police could seize more than 2 million pounds ($2.4 million) from them for failing to pay taxes on 21 million pounds of income from their online businesses.
Andrew Tate said the verdict was “not justice” and called it a “coordinated attack”.
He is a self-described misogynist and has previously been banned from social media platforms for expressing these views.
A former kickboxer, he has gained millions of followers online and has lived in Romania for several years, having previously been based in the UK.
