Amy Schumer She opened up about her Cushing’s Syndrome diagnosis and shared that she wouldn’t have known about it if it weren’t for online trolls.
On the January 22 episode of Call her fatherAmy spoke about how commentators suddenly criticized her Swollen face. “A year ago, the Internet really came to me,” she told host Alex Cooper.
“I said, ‘Okay, everyone, relax,'” she said at first, but changed her mind when she saw the doctors in her comments showing concern. “Doctors were sharing in the comments and they were like, ‘No, no… there’s something really going on. “Your face looks so crazy.”
They suggested she might have Cushing’s syndrome. According to the National Institute of Health, Cushing It occurs when the body “produces too much of the stress hormone cortisol over a long period of time.” Symptoms include weight gain, increased fat around the neck, and a rounded face called a “moon face.” If left untreated, people with this condition can suffer a stroke or heart attack, along with many other health complications.
“At first, I said, ‘Fuck you,'” she continued. However, she recalled that she was also receiving steroid injections to reduce her breasts and C-section scars. “I had these injections, steroid injections, which gave me what’s called Cushing’s syndrome — which I wouldn’t have known about if the Internet hadn’t come to me so powerfully.”
She added that she received the official diagnosis for her condition in early 2024, right before filming her next movie Kind of pregnant. She said: “I learned that I have this condition, and that I suffer from something called moon face. I am acting in a movie, and there is a camera fixed directly in my face.”
“Everyone says, ‘You look great,’ until a friend finally got honest with her and said, ‘Your face looks a little crazy,'” she said.
Amy added that she “got rid” of Cushing’s disease and said “it should work itself out.”
Fortunately, Amy had someone on set who could motivate her during those moments of insecurity. “I was feeling very frustrated with myself before I started filming this movie,” she said. “I was having a real problem figuring out how I was going to star in a movie while this was going on.” It was her friend and director Lorraine Caffery who said to her: “You know, I think you look great.”
