Alexander Javerev Downs Downs to Ben Shelton to win the third Munich title

Alexander Javerev, a Munich-top-descendant, defeated the second class American Ben Shelton by -2-2, -4-6 to win his third Munich title on Sunday.

It was the first title of the big-survivor German player of the year and the 24th on the ATP tour. He had earlier won the Clay-Court Tournament in 2017 and ’18.

“It’s extremely special, I always like the winning tournaments in Germany,” Javerev said, who celebrated his 20th birthday. “This is definitely a great birthday presence, let’s put it that way.”

Shelton was playing in his fourth career final and Clay was second after winning Houston last year.

In the rainbow of BMW Open, Javerev served for the match and set up a match point with a cut backhand on the net that shelton could not return.

After a brief rally he achieved the victory with a sharp backhand volley in the net. It was a dominant performance in the service from Javerev, who did not face any break points.

Carlos Alkaraj – who defeated Germany in the French Open final last year – Javerev’s day became better after Holler Run in the Open final, Joverev’s day became better, returning to the ATP rankings.
