Alex Bowman ran in Mexico but will have Anthony Alfredo on standby

Mexico City-Anthony Alfredo will be on standby this weekend for Alex Bowman after Bowman’s main accident last weekend in Michigan, Hendrick Motorsports said on Thursday.

Hendrick Motorsports said Bowman will compete at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez on Sunday’s cup of cup. The team said Bowman was evaluated for back pain this week after the accident in Michigan.

In 2023, Bowman missed four total cup racing after sustaining a vertebrae in a Sprint car accident.

Alfredo is the primary simulator manager for Hendrick Motorsports and is also entered here in Saturday’s XFinity race.

This past weekend in Michigan, Austin Cindric made contact with Cole Custer and Custer’s car hit Bowman’s. It led Bowman’s car in the wall.

“It hurt a lot,” Bowman told Kim Coon of Prime after leaving the Infield Care Center in Michigan. “It was probably the top of the board on hits I took, and unfortunately I had a lot of hits. So I hate it for the 48 team. Can’t really do anything except to think of ‘O (exploding), it’s about to injure really badly. “Hate it.

According to Racing Insights, William Byron is first for the season in speed and restart rankings.

Bowman last ended last weekend in the 36 car field. Michigan was the seventh time in the last nine races that Bowman finished 27th or worse. He dropped from the third to 13th place in the standings at that time.

Bowman started five top 10 finals in his last nine road course. He won the Chicago Street race last July for his most recent cup victory.

“I am very much looking forward to chasing Mexico this weekend,” Bowman said in a statement from Hendrick Motorsports. ‘It is always special to bring our sport to new places and feel the excitement of fans who do not always see that we are chasing personally.

“Our no. 48 -Bond partner Chevy team had speed, but we haven’t had the results to show for it lately. We are ready to reverse our happiness and compile a strong race from start to finish. ‘
