Akshay Bhatia accidentally hits an inside OB in the Dubai Desert Classic

Akshay Bhatia found problems with wood on the 13th^th hole in the 2nd round of the Hero Dubai Desert Classic and decided to take the safe route into the eighth fairway.

The problem was that the eighth hole was considered out of bounds for those playing No. 13. The rules official approached Bhatia before he could play his third shot and explained the situation to him. “However, the list did not say that,” Bhatia replied to the official. Even the on-air commentator didn’t notice – at first.

Internal OB rule for hole no. 13 was, in fact, listed at the bottom of the rule sheet, which the official showed to Bhatia. The left-hander had to re-hit his shot from the trees, following a penalty, and played the 13th^th fairway. He then hit the fairway metal to 10 feet but bogeyed twice for double bogey.

Bhatia, who started on the back nine on Friday, closed with a birdie for a 1-over 73. He made the cut at 2-under par, 10 out of the 36-hole lead.
