Long Pound, Dad. – Eight of the top 10 staters in the contemporary cup race at Pocono Raceway did not win this season, which made today’s race one that could possibly change the play -off match.
Ten races remain in the ordinary season, including today’s opportunity before the playoffs begin.
While Denny Hamlin, a three -time winner this season, has the pole, Chris Buescher, who holds the last play -off game, starts second.
Others without a win this season that starts in the Top 10 today are: Carson Hcevar (third of third place), John Hunter Nemecheek (fourth), Cole Custer (fifth), Chase Briscoe (sixth), Ty Gibbs (seventh), Tyler Reddick (eighth) and Daniel Suarez (10th).
Buescher, Briscoe and Reddick enter today’s race on a play -off match.
Continue to the field and 15 of the top 18 qualifiers did not win this season. These include Erik Jones (from 11th), Ryan Preece (13th), Brad Keselowski (14th), Zane Smith (15th), Austin Dillon (16th), Noah Gragson (17th) and Chase Elliott (18th).
Here’s what you should note in today’s race (14:00 ET Prime):
Different strategies
Teams will be able to cock in Pocono without losing a shot, provided they are no more than about 12 seconds behind the leader. This means that those who are further behind should probably use another strategy.
The rear half of the field is worth watching.
William Byron had the fastest car in practice and destroyed in qualifying. The team repaired the car with the work that was done this morning.
Bubba Wallace had a starting issue and didn’t even make a shot in qualifying. He will also be behind as the green flag waves. He catches up 57 points above the cutting line, but as he starts, he can prevent him from scoring points in the first phase. He is sixth place in the series in stage points.
“I don’t think you can get panicked about it, you can’t change it,” said Denny Hamlin, co-owner of Wallace’s 23xi race car, about the possibility that Wallace wasn’t getting points in the first phase. “If you’re Bubba Wallace, it’s not something you’ve done. I am confident that this is not something the team did, it is just one of the mechanical things where the anvil has fallen on your time. It also happens to others.
‘It’s very easy for drivers and teams to get over their bad luck, but everyone has it and was usually out over time. I think they run fast enough to be a play -off car, and a lot will depend on who’s jumping on the wildlife card races for the next ten weeks, but I feel confident that the 23 team will be a part of it. “
Another strategy to look at is if someone tries a three-stop strategy. Most teams have placed four times in last year’s race. Austin Cindric’s team placed three times, but finished 18th.
“We had a caution every time that I had a tire last year,” Cindric said. “… I’m not sure if it will discourage us from us, maybe not necessarily that strategy, but trying to make places.”
Can Chase Elliott build momentum?
Chase Elliott attempts to achieve for the first time since the end of March and early April at Martinsville and Darlington.
Elliott comes from a third place in Mexico. Although he is on a 43 -racing victory, he was consistent enough to finish fourth in the points this season.
So, with 16 of 36 races, was it a good season for Elliott?
“That’s a good question,” Elliott said. ‘Well? Of course, but that’s not where I want to be.
“I think there were some highlights for us and to be honest, there were weeks where we did well where we had a good finish … and I can go home and like ‘man, we were in the mix, and we had a good pace today. ‘
‘… these are the days and weekends where we just aren’t even relevant, I think the most frustrating for me. We had more of it than I would like and that we would like a team.
“I think it was good, but not for myself or for our team, but there are still many races in the season, and I think we have ourselves in a position to make a mediocre day in order. We can build out of it, and we still have a chance. “
Denny’s unique double
Denny Hamlin wants to achieve his second consecutive victory of the season with a catch.
He won in Michigan, skipped the race in Mexico City for the birth of his son, and he would like to win at Pocono where his seven wins here make the track’s everyday driver.
