Chris Jones: We’ll keep winning until teams hire Steve Spagnuolo as their head coach

All but one of this year’s coaching vacancies have been filled and head defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo is not in the mix for the Saints job, which likely means Spagnuolo will be back in Kansas City for a sixth season in 2025.

Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones predicts it will mean another successful season for him and his teammates. Appearing on ESPN after the Bills’ 32-29 win, Jones said the Chiefs’ “run won’t end as long as Spagnuolo is still calling the shots on defense.

“As long as they continue to let Spaczki be our defensive coordinator and they don’t hire him as a head coach, we’re going to keep winning,” Jones said. “To me, he’s one of the greatest assistant coaches to ever coach the game. You look at his resume, he’s got one of the greatest resumes. He figures out a way to close. That’s what quarterbacks do.”

SPAGNUOLO went 10-38 as head coach of the Rams from 2009-2011. He has had head coaching conversations in recent years, including meetings with the Jets and Jaguars this month. None of them went anywhere and that was good news for the defense chiefs.
