Niger military leaders Uranium Somaïr nationalization

Niger’s military junta said the majority of the French Local Uranium company will be nationalized in the last scale of the two countries in a row.

Somaïr nuclear French fuels are accused of Oroano, Niger’s “careless acts”.

Since then, in 2023, the military leaders of Niger said they want to maintain more local control of the country’s mineral richness and from France, they move away from the former colonial power, near Russia.

Niger is the largest producer of the seventh uranium in the world and has the highest rations in Africa.

“This nationalization will allow the company’s healthier and more sustainable management and, as a result of Nigeriiens’s mining resources to enjoy the enjoyment of wealth,” the junta said in a statement.

No comment has not yet been made.

In the lady decades, the company’s acting in Niger has a 63% stake in Somaïr, but last year the military authorities acquired the operational control of the company.

According to Reuters News Agency, Oran, owned by the French state, has launched legal action against Niger.

Niger gained independence from France in 1960 and the former colonial power secured exclusive access to Niger Uranio supplies through various agreements.

Analysts say that many Niger has seen France seen as a symbol of the continuous dominant of the country.

However, they notice that uncertainty about the future of mining can threaten hundreds of jobs, as well as export earnings.
