The third-ranked Jessica Pigla-7 (8), 7-5, 7-6 (5) saved two matches before defeating the Berlin-Lollywoodmilla Samsonova Berlin Open.
The 20th Ranned Samsonova recorded 18 ACs against defending champions in 3 hours, 21 minutes in 21 minutes.
“I can’t believe that I’m standing here, it’s incredible,” Samsonova said in his on-court interview. “Maybe I’m fine with adrenaline now, but I think it won’t be so right after.”
In three sets, Naomi Osaka defeated Samsonova Pugger saved two match points in his performance by 3-1 in a decision-making set.
Aryana Sabalenka’s match against Qualifier Rebecca Masarova was postponed overnight because the court was slippery. The first set of Sabalenka was stopped after winning 6-2.
Earlier, onS Jabeur defeated the fourth class Jasmine Paulini in the second round of -1-3, -3-5. Paulini was runner -up in Wimbledon last year. Jabur was in the Wimbledon final in 2022 and 2023.
Paulini was playing for the first time after winning the French Open Doubles title with fellow Italian Sarah Irani. Paulini lost to Elina Switolina in the fourth round of the French Open Singles.
