Mexico City – a look at the winners and losers of Sunday’s Nascar Cup race at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.
Shane from Gisbergen – His rookie Cup season was a struggle on the oval, but from Gisbergen did what he was hired by Trackhouse to do – he won a road race and put himself on a play -off match. He did it easily, with a 60 rounds with a race high and won by 16,567 seconds-the biggest victory since Texas in November 2009 (25,686 seconds) and the biggest victory on a roadway since Riverside in 1979 (32.9 seconds).
Hendrick Motorsports – Three of his cars placed in the top 10. Chase Elliott was a season-best third, Alex Bowman fourth and William Byron ninth.
Christopher Bell – He finished second and gave him seven top three finishes in 16 races. He has three wins, three runner-up results and third place.
Michael McDowell – His fifth place was his best of the season. He placed in the top -10 in four of the last six road races.
John Hunter Nemechek – His sixth place is his third top 10 in the last six races and gives him a career highest five top-10s in the season.
Cole Custer – After Travel Snafus led to him and a few others from the rabbit factory team to drive from Charlotte, North Carolina, to Atlanta, so they could fly to Mexico early Friday, he put the best eighth season on the season.
Daniel Suarez – While finishing 19th in Sunday’s cup race, his victory in Saturday’s Xfinity race in his homeland was an electric and emotional moment he would not forget.
Carson Hocevar – Ricky Stenhouse jr. Hocvar confronted after their second incident on the track in the last three races. The turn of Hocevar also led to the final caution that came in the middle of a green-flag pit cycle and influenced the race for some drivers. In addition, Hocevar finishes 34th. He finished 25th or worse in four of the last five races.
Kyle Busch – He entered the race for the final play -off game (but outside the playoffs due to a binder). He crashed into the opening round and finished last in the 37 car field. Busch is now 50 points from the last play -off game with 10 races left in the ordinary season.
Kyle Larson – His car was damaged in Kyle Busch’s incident and lost several rounds for repairs. Larson finishes 36th. He finished 36th or worse in two of the last four races.
