Huge crowd in Athens demands justice for 2023 train crash

riot police have clashed with protesters in Athens after thousands gathered to demand justice in Greece’s worst train disaster, which killed 57 people.

In 2023, a passenger service carrying 350 people collided with a freight train near the Greek town of Tempi, causing the front carriages to burst into flames.

“I have no oxygen” is the main slogan of the protests, referring to the discovery that they died not from the collision itself, but from the fire caused by banned chemicals on the freight train.

The accident led to condemnation of Greece’s railway safety rules, as well as the state’s handling of the subsequent investigation.

The video shows police firing tear gas, protesters throwing sticks and other objects at the officers.
