growing per year Japanthe house of some the tallest person in the worldI fell in love with traditional Japanese food at a young age. My passion for clean and healthy eating is what drove me to be nutritionist.
My diet has always been the focus nutritious, long-term nutrition and environmentally friendly foods. Now that I live in the US, I get my groceries from local markets or organic farms. But when I want to save money and supply on healthy goods, I send my husband on his favorite errand: a solo trip to Costco.
Here are the Costco items I trust and can’t live without:
There’s nothing like a delicious bowl of tofu and veggies

Edamame is another must-have soy product in our home. At Costco, you can get an individually wrapped 8-ounce bag of 12 pieces.
This is the snack I recommend most to friends and family. Simply microwave a bag for two minutes and enjoy as a low-calorie, high-protein snack. Edamame too rich in fiber, antioxidants and vitamin K.
Goji berries They have been used as an ancient medicine in East Asia for thousands of years. I add them to many dishes, miso soup, salad, jam and chia milk. They add a natural sweetness and texture.
A fourth cup goji berries It has only 100 calories, 4 grams of protein and fiber, and 800 milligrams of potassium – more than you get in a banana.
It is very important to eat vegetables! Only 1 in 10 American adults date minimum requirement for vegetable intakethat is, five servings every day.
I often suggest doubling that amount. Eating a variety of vegetables regularly cleanses and energizes the body.
Costco has a wonderful selection of organic vegetables. We always get mushroom samples, English cucumbers and pre-washed beans. They help make weekday meal prep easier.
Some of my favorite fruits are oranges, blueberries, bananas and blackberries.
I usually buy organic because I like it eat skins of some fruits, like kiwi and citrus fruits, for added fiber and antioxidants. For many fruits, the skin contains more nutrients than the inside.
Avocados are a must at Costco. I like to slice some into my salads, mixed with lime juice, walnuts and my signature miso dressing.
My husband now uses avocado on his sandwiches instead of butter or cream cheese, and it feels so much healthier!
Salmon and vegetable bowl for Genki and Happy

I don’t eat meat, but my dog Genki and cat Happy need their animal protein.
I’m not a fan of ultra-processed animal foods, so I like to balance their meals with organic chicken breast from Costco, frozen Atlantic salmon, some edamame, tofu, veggies, and a variety of legumes.
They absolutely love it, and I can’t remember the last time they were sick.
Almond butter contains monounsaturated fats, vitamin E, magnesium and other essential minerals promote heart health.
I like to use almond butter instead of oil or butter in baking and cooking. Be sure to check the ingredients to make sure there is no added salt or sugar.
Sardines are one of the most sustainable fish. For each 3 oz servingYou get 2 grams of heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids.
This is because my husband’s “emergency” food preparation is so quick. Simply sprinkle with turmeric, black pepper and fresh (or powdered) ginger. It is eaten with rice, whole wheat bread or noodles.
Matcha is a natural healing drink that it has anti-cancer propertiesand can improve your blood sugar and cholesterol levels.
I use the one from Costco Sencha Everyday Organic Matcha baking powder, chia milk or just everyday tea. It’s very reasonably priced at just $19.99 for a 12 ounce package, and I trust that it’s sourced from organic family tea farms in Kagoshima, Japan.
