German 17-year-old Angel became the youngest grass-court quarter-finals since Baker in 1985

Stutgart, Germany-Grass-Court has been the youngest player since 17-year-old Justin Angle has been the youngest player since Boris Baker to reach the quarter-finals of the ATP Tour Grass-Court Tournament on Thursday.

Engel became the youngest quarter-finalist of Stuttgart by defeating Alex Michelesen, a seventh-born Alex Michelesen in America. He has been the youngest person to reach the quarter of any Grass-Court event since winning the Baker Wimbledon as a 17-year-old in the 5th.

In October, 18-year-old Engel will face Canada’s Felix Agar-Aliasim on Friday.

It has been a significant 12 months for Engel, who entered the top 800 in the rankings last July, entered 1,344 in the 2024 season. He is now guaranteed to go to the top 250.

This week, Angel also became the second youngest player behind Rafael Nadal since 9, won a match on three surfaces, clay and hard-court.
