Eldrew Yulo earns a medal shot at vault, floor exercise, horizontal bar, and pommel horse in the junior competition of the 2025 Artistic Gymnastics Asian Championships

MANILA, Philippines – Eldrew Yulo advanced to the finals of four apparatuses at the junior level of the 2025 Artistic Gymnastics Asian Championships in Jecheon, South Korea, on Friday, June 6.

Yulo, who finished ninth in the individual all-around with a total of 75.698 points, will contend for medals in vault, floor exercise, horizontal bar, and pommel horse.

The 16-year-old hopes to defend the vault gold he won last year in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, after placing fourth in the qualification with an average of 13.250 points.

Garnering 13.066 from his first vault and 13.433 from his second, Yulo finished behind South Korea’s An Dae-geon (13.633) and Bak Jun-woo (13.500) and India’s Akshat Bajaj (13.316).

With the top eight gymnasts qualifying for the finals of each apparatus, Yulo also advanced in floor exercise with 13.533 points (6th), horizontal bar with 12.733 points (6th), and pommel horse with 12.633 points (9th).

Yulo made the cut in pommel horse due to the two-per-country rule as three Kazakh gymnasts ranked in the top eight.

He placed 12th in still rings with 11.933 points and 25th in parallel bars with 11.800 points.

A part of the first subdivision, Yulo held the early lead in the all-around but lost his medal position as Japan and Korea made up the podium.

Japan’s Nao Ojima bagged the all-around gold with 79.465 points, while Korea’s Cha Ye-jun (78.964) and Japan’s Tomoharu Tanida (78.365) clinched silver and bronze, respectively.

Filipino gymnast Evan Thomas Aliwalas, who competed alongside Yulo, finished 29th in the all-around with 67.397 points.

Yulo will return to action on Sunday, June 8, for the apparatus finals.

His older brother, Olympic champion Carlos Yulo, earned an all-around bronze a day earlier, and also reached the finals of five apparatuses. – Rappler.com
