Scottie Thompson stars in clutch, rushes out for birth of child

After setting up Ginebra’s game-winner, Scottie Thompson heads straight from the court to the hospital to be by his wife Jinky’s side

MANILA, Philippines – It’s a momentous night for Ginebra star Scottie Thompson. 

Just minutes after a game-winning assist against Blackwater, Thompson rushed out of the PhilSports Arena to head to the hospital and be by his wife Jinky’s side as she went into labor on Friday night, May 23. 

Thompson dished out the assist that set up Japeth Aguilar’s game-winning jumper in the waning seconds to steer the Gin Kings to a 101-99 win over the Bossing in the PBA Philippine Cup, then received the news right after the final buzzer. 

Ginebra head coach Tim Close shared the update after the game, as he let Thompson skip the team’s post-game discussion to go straight from the court to the hospital. 

“His wife is delivering, as we speak. So he’s not going to be in the dugout,” Cone said. 

“Immediately after the game was over. He left and went to his car. He’s on his way to the hospital,” the seasoned mentor added. 

Thompson had a double-double performance for Ginebra in the win, recording 18 points and 10 assists as he played a stabilizing role against the upset-seeking Blackwater throughout the game. 

According to Cone, Thompson played without knowing that his wife would be delivering their child tonight. 

“They told him right after the game was over, and that’s when he found out. It was nice of his wife not to insist on telling him to come right away,” he said. 

It will be Thomsons’ third child since welcoming their first-born son Scot Alystair, on May 5, 2023, followed by Schyler Austin on April 1, 2024. 

The Thompsons publicly shared Jinky’s third pregnancy just last month in an Instagram post. 

Jinky has been a constant part of Thompson’s success, becoming a regular figure on the sidelines of Ginebra and Gilas Pilipinas games. – Rappler.com
