IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois dismissed challenger Joseph Parker as “having his day” during a Face Off interview on DAZN ahead of next month’s Riyadh Season co-fight on the Artur Beterbiev vs Dmitri Bivol 2 card on February 22.
DuBois (22-2, 21 KOs) let the 33-year-old know that his five-fight winning streak was coming to an end for recently-revitalized former WBO heavyweight champion Parker (35-3, 23 KOs). Parker and his team made a big deal about his victories over 41-year-old Zhilei Zhang and 39-year-old Deontay Wilder.
Parker’s victory over Zhang was questionable as he was knocked out twice in the fight, and it looked like it should have been a loss under those circumstances. Wilder looks like a broken fighter after his three fights with Tyson Fury.
So it’s no surprise that Parker got hit because he seems like the epitome of an old fighter who just can’t pull the trigger anymore. The power was still there for Wilder, but the responses were 100% off.
Dubois, 27, scored a career-best fifth-round knockout victory over former two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua on September 21 at London’s Wembley Stadium.
Interestingly, AJ didn’t even try to avenge his loss by pushing for an immediate comeback like he did after losing to Oleksandr Usyk and Andy Ruiz. Joshua’s refusal to do the rematch shows that neither he nor his promoters felt up to the task.
Daniel Dubois: “He’s been in form for the last two fights, but he’s had his day,” said the IBF heavyweight champion. DAZN Boxannouncing his title defense on February 22.
Joseph Parker: “I just started. My day is coming.”
DuBois: “What about Joe Joyce? what happened?”
Parker: “I was sick. What about Joe Joyce for you?”
DuBois: “It’s different.
Parker: “He should have knocked me out in the first round. I was sick. I went 11 rounds.
DuBois: “I’ll rise to the occasion. I am superior to him in all departments. “Strength and Speed”
Coach Andy Lee: “We know what Daniel said. Great jab, great power, and speed, to a degree. He’s not as fast as Joe, and he’s not as good of footwork as Joe. What Joe has is genius. He is a good fighter. That’s how we tamed Deontay Wilder’s power, and that’s how we fought and released Zhang. People underestimate his bulk, and you’re about to see it, too.
Parker: “I’ve been quietly building to what’s to come, and now we’ve got this guy.
Dubois: “I’m ready to fight. It’s the same thing. The day is different.”
Frank Warren: “Neither of them take it lightly. It’s all about confidence.”
