In the two days after he publicly announced he wanted out of Miami, Tyreek Hill was welcomed by the Dolphins He didn’t say anything more.
At the start of the season-ending press conference with general manager Chris Grier and coach Mike McDaniel on Tuesday, Hill’s status was brought up.
On Monday, Greer said he and McDaniel had “productive conversations” with Hill. McDaniel later added that the meeting lasted an hour.
Greer declined to share details of the conversation. Greer said Hill did not ask to trade “me.”
McDaniel said Hill was told that taking himself out of the game “will not be tolerated” in the future, and that he “accepts accountability.”
This means that the Dolphins will not play hardball with him, by (For example) void his remaining guarantees or pursue the bonus money for refusing to play.
McDaniel added that, during the meeting, they “cleared the air in a difficult and turbulent situation.”
However, it is assumed that after the meeting Hill changed his Twitter avatar to an image of his face on the body of former Buccaneers receiver Antonio Brown, when Brown removed his shoulder pads and jersey and left the field in a late-season game against the Jets.
Once again, Hill said nothing to change his stated desire to leave.
Some believe it’s less about Hill leaving and more about getting another big raise, raising his annual average from $30 million per year.
No matter how things go, it appears the Dolphins plan to do everything in their power to keep their best players on the team. Whether that will happen remains to be seen.
