WBC Interim Lightweight Champion William Zepeda and Tevin Farmer are finalizing rematch negotiations on the 29th in Cancun, Mexico.
Farmer (33-7-1, 8 KOs) is being offered a rematch on the Latino night card in Riyadh on Nov. 16 via a 10-round split decision after losing to Zepeda (32-0, 27 KOs).
Tevin lamented that he had to make the decision. It doesn’t seem like it, but it’s understandable why he wouldn’t be happy. Now, he’s got another payday, but no chance of winning the rematch.
The points
95-94 – Zepeda
95-94 – Farmer
95-94 – Farmer
Some boxing fans saw the decision as controversial as they felt the 34-year-old farmer deserved the win. The farmer suffered a loss in the fourth round, mainly receiving head shots.
“In the year They are set to complete a rematch between William Zepeda and Tevin Farmer on March 29 in Cancun. The fight will now be 12 rounds for the Interim Lightweight Championship (for the WBC),” said Salvador Rodriguez. X.
Zepeda focused almost entirely on Farmer’s body and nailed him with powerful shots that easily earned him a wide decision win.
The score reflected what this set of judges felt was important to them. Many had scored Zepeda based on his body work. It wasn’t close.
I got it 9-1 for Zepeda. Farmer won the fourth thanks to Zepeda’s lightning strike, but other than that round, it was one-sided. Zepeda was pounding Farmer’s body with each round and wore him down in the eighth round.
As they took a lot of punishment and had to be dragged to their own advantage, the farmer had the same view as other opponents of Zepeda. But the farmer’s stay there was not competitive from the eighth round. It was hard to see the old veteran beaten like that.
Former IBF super featherweight champion Tevin was off and equal to the punching bag in the last three rounds. If this had been a 12-round battle, Farmer would have been eliminated because he was taking so much punishment in the last two rounds.
It was the same when Farmer fought Raymond Muratala on July 13, 2024. Farmer was a contender for seven rounds but won in the eighth round and was lucky to see the final bell.
In the last two rounds, Zepeda threw 100+ punches per round, and Farmer looked the victim. Surprisingly, the judges found this mismatch very close. A rematch isn’t needed, but it will silence fans who felt robbed by Farmer.
As long as he wins his fight against Floyd Schofield on February 22nd, Zepeda should look good to win this fight and set up a title fight with WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson.
