However, social media has been abuzz with all the possibilities, with many suggesting that Rohit Sharma will not attend the grand opening ceremony of the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan. In particular, the marquee competition will start on February 19 and the opening ceremony will be held on February 16 or 17 in Karachi.

With the grumbling of BCCI’s decision not to send the captain to Pakistan creating a lot of noise on social media, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) needs to come forward and clear the air. In fact, Pakistan Cricket Board official Rohit Sharma is confused by reports that the grand opening ceremony of the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan may be skipped.
Surprisingly, a PCB official revealed that the visas were issued to three Indian nationals who were part of the ICC delegation that visited Pakistan recently. The PCB said it has secured all necessary government approvals to ensure seamless issuance of visas to captains, players and officials participating in Pakistan’s pre-tournament events.
These latest revelations were a clear confirmation that Rohit Sharma and other BCCI officials are set to travel to Pakistan for the customary events. A Pakistan Cricket Board official was quoted by PTI as saying, “This clearly includes Rohit or any Indian team player or official or board official.
Meanwhile, another source revealed that the PCB has informed the International Cricket Council (ICC) that the opening ceremony with all the teams and their captains will be held in Pakistan. The time of the ceremony is determined by Schedule Warm-up matches.
“This is in line with normal protocols, and since the opening match is on the 19th, the opening ceremony can be expected on the 16th or 17th,” the source told PTI.
Well, the Indian Cricket Board has not yet confirmed, nor denied, whether Rohit Sharma will travel to Pakistan for the event. There are also reports that the Indian players will not wear jerseys with Pakistan’s name in the tournament.
Reacting to the speculations, the PCB official criticized the BCCI for mixing politics with cricket. He believes that the ICC will not allow this to happen and will support Pakistan.
As quoted by IANS, “BCCI is bringing politics into cricket, which is not good for the game at all. They refused to travel to Pakistan. They don’t want to send a captain (to Pakistan) for the opening ceremony; Now there are reports that they don’t want the name of the host country (Pakistan) to be printed on the jersey.
