The DraftKings odds for the next Cowboys coach, which has been more on/off again lately, are back from Elaine Benes and David Puddy. There is a new favorite.
Current Cowboys offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer now leads the way at -250. Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, who spent five years on the coaching staff in Dallas, was previously the favorite. He is now +250.
The initial favorite, Colorado coach Deion Sanders, is down to +750 — with six others ahead of him.
DraftKings has lowered the odds on multiple occasions, apparently due to market volatility. They may come down again.
However, currently, it takes a $250 bet on Schottenheimer to win $100.
Here’s why Schottenheimer makes sense. Quarterback Dak Prescott wants continuity. He doesn’t want to learn a new crime. If, as it appears, coach Mike McCarthy is gone simply because he and owner/general manager Jerry Jones couldn’t agree on the length of a new deal, why not elevate Schottenheimer and move on?
This is why Schottenheimer is so illogical. Now 51, he has never been a head coach at any level. He was never a serious candidate to be an NFL head coach. He failed as an offensive coordinator in several stops in the NFL.
It wouldn’t be an inspiring hire, to say the least. But it will give Jones someone who will be grateful enough for the opportunity to not complain about the owner’s habit of doing multiple radio interviews a week, post-game media gatherings and workplace interactions. As if it were an amusement park.
