Joe Biden says he could beat Donald Trump in the election

US President Joe Biden has said he believes he would defeat Donald Trump and win re-election in November.

Speaking to USA Today an exclusive interviewBiden, however, added that he was not sure if he would have the stability for another four-year term.

“So far, so good,” the 82-year-old said. “But who knows what I’ll be when I’m 86?”

In a wide-ranging interview with Susan Page, Biden said he was still considering a preliminary pardon for Donald Trump’s enemies, including former Republican congresswoman Liz Cheney and former health official Dr. Anthony Fauci.

In an interview published Wednesday, Biden said he was “very forthright with Trump” about possible pardons after the November election in an Oval Office meeting.

“I tried to make it clear that there was no need, and it was against his interest to go back and try to settle the scores,” Biden said, adding that Trump did not push back, he “basically just listened.”

Biden said his final decision will depend on who Trump chooses for his cabinet.

In that same meeting, Biden said Trump had “completions” about his economic history.

“He (Trump) thought I was going to leave with a good record,” the Democrat said.

The interview with USA Today is Biden’s only interview with a print publication to date.

The White House has tightly controlled Biden’s media access, and the president has not held a press conference since leaving the race on July 21.

In the interview, he also defended the outgoing president granted an unconditional pardon to his son, Hunter Biden, who was convicted of two criminal charges—tax evasion and illegal gun purchase—despite repeatedly insisting he would not do it.

Biden, who came to Capitol Hill as a U.S. senator in 1972, drew criticism from within his own party for his apparent reluctance to drop out of the presidential race amid concerns about his age and mental acuity.

Speaking to USA Today, Biden said he believed he would win “based on the polls,” but acknowledged that his age could affect the position.

“When Trump ran for re-election, I really thought I had the best chance to beat him. But I also wasn’t looking to be president when I was 85, 86 years old,” Biden said. “But I don’t know. Who the hell knows?”

After Vice President Kamala Harris lost to Trump, senior members of the Democratic Party, such as former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, said Democrats He might have fared better in the election if Biden had dropped out of the race sooner.
