Teofimo Lopez is training with Team Canelo to stay sharp for his fight against IBF light welterweight champion Richardson Hitchins. If Lopez keeps this up, that fight may not end well.
Hitchins is like a combination of Shakur Stevenson, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Subriel Mathias. He can do it all, and he is very hard to beat. I don’t see this ending well for Teofimo.
Lopez said he feels it. “Refreshed” But he needs a time machine for that to happen. It’s impossible to take him at face value because he hasn’t looked good in years. He’s 27 years old, and it’s hard to believe he’s not in his late 30s given how badass he looks from 2021.
Theo is still a good talker and will be able to get fans excited about his fights in 2025, but he’s not going to win any of them unless he’s matched up against weaker opponents. He’s become that kind of fighter—an Adrien Broner type who can still talk but can’t fight Lick.
Canelo’s trainer Eddie Reynoso must be a magician to revive Teofimo and bring him back to where he was years ago.
If Theo leaves 0-2 In the year With his fights in 2025, Turki Al-Sheikh may have a case of buyer’s remorse after signing a three-fight contract. If you look at Theofimon’s battles from 2021, you can’t expect much from him other than losses and poor performances. Hardcore boxing fans are well aware that Theo is on the low side of his career, and is not coming back as the fighter he once was.
Theo looked like he’d been skipped since his last fight against journeyman Steve Clagett last July, and everyone was hit with a hell of a bad performance.
You can give Lopez a break to match the likes of Jamain Ortiz, Sandor Martin, Jorge Cambossos and Pedro Campa because they are decent fighters. But there’s no excuse for Theo to fight Claggett and have both eyes shut due to swelling.
Lopez’s three-fight plan
If Teofimo loses to Boots in October, his fight in February will be against Ryan Garcia vs. Devin Honey 2 losers.
Losers bracket bacon
Maybe Lopez will come out in the loser’s bracket, ready to fight Haney. That’s a winnable fight for Teofimo, but only because Honey can’t punch.
WBO 140-lb champion Tefoimo (21-1, 13 KOs) is hoping to get off to a good start in 2025 by fighting undefeated Hitchins (19-0, 7 KOs), and IBF 147-lb champion Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis. O.C
WBO 140-lb champion Theo is a good fundamental champion, but he is not the fighter he once was five years ago. He may not have been a great talent to begin with, but he’s gone downhill since 2020.
“We’ve executed and taken over. It’s been a good year for me. I feel renewed. These are exciting fights that we’re looking forward to doing and taking over,” Teofimo Lopez said. Fight Hub TV About his plans to fight Richardson Hitchins, then Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis in a unification match in October.
“I won’t fight until early summer. I want to play business this year. I want to make the right deals. Richardson Hitchins, Jaron Enis and then the last. I’m fighting a champion, then the biggest fight.
“He just has to let go of his pride and arrogance. Just play business,” Teofimo said when asked if we’ll see him and Gervonta Davis fight. If you really want to fight us, we will.
