At a time when Rex Ryan is hoping to become NYJ’s head coach (again), his fraternal twin has taken the USC job.
The The Trojans announced that Rob Ryan is the next assistant head coach/linebackers coach.
He last coached at the college level in 1999, at Oklahoma State. He most recently spent the last three seasons with the Raiders as a senior defensive assistant.
Rob joined Bill Belichick with the Patriots in 2000. He served as the linebackers coach for the franchise’s first two Super Bowl-winning seasons.
Some believed that Rex would hire him if Rex got a job in New York. Still possible, if Rob slows down signing with USC.
That would not be unprecedented. After being fired as the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator following the 2012 season, Rob agreed to become the Rams’ defensive coordinator before he changed his mind and becomes the Saints’ new defensive coordinator.
