Report: Steelers decline Bears’ Mike Tomlin trade call

When Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was asked about the possibility of another team trying to trade for him, he responded by telling anyone with those thoughts that “save your time.”

The Steelers reportedly sent the same message. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Bears invited The Steelers to see if there was any chance a deal could be reached for Tomlin to become their new head coach and the Steelers quickly rejected their overture.

Another team also reportedly reached out to the Steelers and was told Tomlin has a no-trade clause, though he could stop any trade ideas until refuses to negotiate deal with another team even if they agreed to indemnify Pittsburgh.

The Bears have interviewed a number of head coaching candidates over the past few weeks and may begin live talks with coaches from that group currently working for other teams after the divisional round. Their next coach will come from that pool, not one that includes Tomlin.
