Darlington, SC – It started as a joke. But in the end, it became a valued possession for Carson Hocevar and the perfect object on Nascar’s setback weekend.
After qualifying third in Phoenix last month, Hocevar went through the Facebook Marketplace when he decorated a 1997 black Chevrolet bakkie to Dale Earnhardt’s GM Goodwrench No. 3 -ride to fit.
Hocevar, who looks at his only purchases, is on Dash or maybe something on Amazon, those who help him with financial decisions asked if he had to buy the truck. He means it as a joke and thinks that they would speak him out of such a purchase.
The answers, Hocevar said, were overwhelming.
“White yes,” he said the answers were.
So he did.
The purchase fulfills a childhood dream for Hocevar, who remembers the days at Kalamazoo (Michigan) Speedway when the track owner had an intimidator Monte Carlo.
“I always thought it was the coolest thing,” Hocevar said at Darlington Raceway on Saturday. “I always thought it would be nice to have a nascar (car) my street car, but not like a real race car, but so decorated it.
“So I’ve always wanted one of the Monte Carlos since I was a kid. The Dale truck just reminded me of it. ‘
It was a popular ride on the road. Hocvar said he had people at the truck, blowing and him a ‘hell, yes!’
After getting it, the truck was low in fuel, so Hocevar went to a gas station and spent extra time there.
“I think there were five people at the gas station and all five, I had in -depth conversations,” Hocevar said, noting that they were interested in the truck. “I learned their back story and how cool it is. I think it will win a lot of friends. It’s a starting batsman. ‘
