Reasons why people embrace Dry January

12.

“It’s only been a week, and I’m only planning for Dry January at the moment, but I’ve actually been really enjoying it. I’ve tried cutting back on alcohol in the past, but this is the first time I’ve ever fully quit smoking for so long.” Of the time, I love not feeling hungry, not feeling bloated, not feeling groggy, losing excess weight, and being able to enjoy my hobbies after work instead of sitting on the couch because a couple of glasses of wine made me sleepy. I also love being able to drive my car “Home after social events instead of having to pay for an Uber and get my car in the morning or having to crash on someone’s couch.”

“The best part is that my husband and my group of friends do it with me, so we all support each other, and we know that we enjoy being around each other without being drunk, so I would say that has improved my relationships. Sometimes, it’s A bit worrying when you get cravings for alcohol – I’ve never thought of myself as ‘craving’ alcohol until now, when I know I can’t have it, but this reaffirms my decision that it’s something I need to do and hopefully by the end of This month, I will be more confident in my social interactions, I will be more present in my relationships, and I will be able to see improvements in my overall physical health.”
