Kyle Larson made a mistake by Hendrick Motorsports teammate Alex Bowman to take a win on Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Larson moved his win in the no. 5 Chevrolet on Lap 261 of 267, and he drew in the lead after Bowman’s number 48 Chevy scrapped the wall.
“It was far from perfect,” Larson told FS1’s Regan Smith. “I gave up two places by getting into the wall too many times. I knew I wouldn’t get the best restart. I knew I wasn’t good at the short runs. Just had to keep going away on what I know and what is good for me. Proud of myself. Proud of the team. Just a lot of hard work today between Pit Road.
With the win, Larson won a victory that he swept the Nascar Triplehead on Homestead. He won the truck race on Friday and was able to win Saturday’s Xfinity race Before Sam Mayer overtime was started by Sam Mayer again.
“Just super pumped,” Larson said after the thirtieth victory of his cup career and second on Homestead. ‘One of the coolest victories of my cup career because of all the heart strings I had here. The heart strings yesterday. Just keep my head down and keep digging really feel good. ‘
Bowman, who started at the pole position, finished second, followed by Bubba Wallace, Chase Briscoe and Denny Hamlin.
“I think I probably choked that one,” Bowman said. “I just burned my stuff. SAW (Larson) comes, so I have been moving around a bit. Not when he passed me, but the time before I (the wall) hit with the right front and just bent something enough that I lost a lot of right side of the front, and then I pulled it off the wall and ended the fence nicely.
“So man, I hate it for this group. They deserve better than that. Just a few mistakes there. I felt that we were in order all day. The last run was probably the best we were, but hats for (this team). I hate it for (Rick) Hendrick. Congratulations to Kyle and we will get a win again this week. “
Wallace earned a best season and led 56 rounds in his no. 23 Toyota, which started twice on rest starts due to fast pit stops.
“It was really good,” Wallace told Jamie Little of FS1. “We arrived here in Miami and had speed. This is the first box you want to investigate. We just fired OK, which is why I just prayed for track position. My pit staff caught fire. ‘ A large amount of work has gone from this team in the last five years to get where we are. We don’t want to be, but we had a good player. Before.
‘A total of, hats to my 23 -group here. It was a grind all year. We kicked the last phase of each race in the teeth. Finally I’m one out. It feels good. I can’t hang my head on this. It’s a good day. ‘
The race ended on a 51 round green flag, which could let Larson go from the fourth to first after the last restart on Lap 217.
Ryan Blaney led a 124 rounds with a race and won the first phase before taking an engine break in his no. 12, while he was third with 60 rounds left.
“I had no warning,” Blaney Little said. “It was just lying when I opened from the front again, and that was all she wrote.
‘Just stinks. Really fast Ford Mustang. Have led many rounds. Lost some track position with a few things on Pit Road, but a wonderful race between me, Bubba, Larson. I’m sure Denny the last 60 laps would go back into battle. ‘
Blaney finished 36th, his third consecutive finish outside the top 25. He crashed in a 35th place in Las Vegas and had another engine error in a 28th on Phoenix.
“We’ll keep fighting,” said the 2023 Cup Series champion. “I appreciate the 12 guys that they just gave me a hot bar. Incredibly fast race car today. We keep our heads up. This is just one of the things where things are not really about, but the good news is that we bring fast cars, and that’s all you can ask, so keep moving.
