With the regular season over, both the Vikings and head coach Kevin O’Connell joined forces Drop The idea They will consider a deal that would see O’Connell coaching elsewhere in 2025 but the two sides have yet to decide whether their relationship will last beyond next season.
O’Connell is heading into the final year of the contract he signed with the team in 2022 and has gone 34-17 over his first three seasons in Minnesota. The team has lost both of its playoff appearances under O’Connell, but his overall performance seems to make him someone the Vikings would want to keep around for some time.
In a news conference Thursday, O’Connell said he would love to be the head coach at Minnesota and said “I would” when asked if he wanted to sign an extension this offseason. O’Connell went on to say that he would not share details of the conversations he had with the team.
“I had a great dialogue with our partners Ownership this week “And thinking as the season ends,” O’Connell said. “Anything beyond that, I prefer to keep those discussions internal.”
O’Connell reiterated his desire to keep things internal when asked what timeline he had in mind for completing the deal. He was also asked if there was “tension” that needed to be addressed before the deal was completed, and said he had a “great relationship” with the owners who show such strong support for the team.
