Myles Garrett says the Browns are “closer than some think” to a turnaround

Last month, Browns defensive end Myles Garrett said yes wants to know the team’s plan to become a contender sooner rather than later.

Apparently he got his answer.

During the latest episode in the season Hard KnocksGarrett said he spoke with GM Andrew Berry about the team’s plans.

“How do we make the most of all the talent that’s here?” Garrett said via NFL.com. “We are closer than some think we are.”

Garrett appeared to be among “some” when he said what he said in December. And he had good reason to be worried. After the 2023 playoff season, the Browns fell to the bottom of the AFC North.

The biggest question mark is at the fullback position. Deshaun Watson tore his Achilles tendon again and may not play at all in 2025. Although he should make $46 million.

They need another starting quarterback, and are limited by Watson’s contract — unless he suffers another tear in the manner that gives him a bailout from his fully guaranteed salary.

“Everybody wants to know how we can get out of the rut we’re in and get back to winning games,” Garrett said, “and running instead of making plans.”

It’s clear the Browns still plan for Garrett, the first overall pick in 2017 and (since 2024) the first player with 14 or more sacks in four straight seasons, to be part of the solution.

“Obviously, he’s a big part of our organization,” Berry said during the event Hard Knocks episode. “We envision it going from Cleveland to Canton.”

If things don’t improve, Garrett may want to make another stop or two in between.
